UPDATED: Paul Harapin heads Decimal Software as CEO

Experienced executive becomes boss of software-as-a-service vendor

Former VCE Asia-Pacific boss, Paul Harapin, has confirmed he is the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Decimal Software.

Decimal is an Australian software-as-a-service (SaaS) vendor which services financial institutions. The Cloud-based company was founded in 2006 by former Asgard executive, Jan Kolbusz. It is headquartered in Sydney and runs its research and development in Perth, with plans to expand to Melbourne and San Francisco.

Harapin has been in the role since the start of June. He told ARN that his first quarter with the company is about understanding its operations and people.

He joins Decimal after two years as VCE’s APAC vice-president, a stint which ended in April.

Harapin said he left VCE as he wanted a break; he intended to take three months having spent the past nine years in high-demand roles which required heavy traveling, but was forced into an early return to work.

In April, VCE claimed his departure was the outcome of a managerial restructure, but at the same time said the decision was mutual.

"In order to better capitalise on the growing opportunity in the region, VCE is adopting a new management structure in APJ that is highly focused on specific markets including A/NZ, ASEAN, and Japan, as well as regional service providers and system integrators.

"As part of this reorganisation, Paul Harapin and VCE have come to a mutual decision to part ways."

Harapin has not responded to requests for clarification on his departure.

In his career of more than 20 years, Harapin has also worked for VMware, first as Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific vice-president from April 2005 to April 2011, followed by one year as APAC and Japan business development and Cloud vice-president.

Prior to that, he also ran his own company, TySat Software, preceded by roles with Avesta Technologies, Tivoli, and IBM Australia.
