As market congests, datacentre focus will shift to services: F5 Networks

Networking vendor expects demand for datacentres to remain strong locally.

From a brick and mortars perspective, F5 expects the current datacentre presence in Australia to just about meet current and future customer needs.

A/NZ field system engineering senior manager, Matt Miller, said the datacentre space is already well represented, with Macquarie Telecom opening its new datacentre in Sydney and NEXTDC taking over an old Equinix datacentre.

“The focus will be now on how customers are going to consume those services and in a manner that is meaningful to them,” he said.

“The rubber will hit the road about how people will use those services, and how they are going to position themselves to present and provide those services.”

A sustainable growth

Some industry pundits have been concerned the growth of the Australian datacentre market has been too rapid, though Miller does not expect the sector to crash anytime soon.

“It would be negligent of any CIO who needs to outsource a function not to investigate the services that have been provided by these datacentres,” he said.

“If you look at the supply and demand, the infrastructure is being built for a reason.”

One thing Miller has witnessed is the explosion of applications and their consumption.

“The more infrastructure you can actually outsource to a Cloud provider or datacentre and build an eco-system for your applications, that is where the market is headed,” he said.
