HP’s South Pacific (Australia and New Zealand) managing director, Robert Mesaros, is leaving his role to take up a new position leading the company’s 3D Printing organisation for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ).

The company’s South Pacific region printing systems director, Paul Gracey, will step in as interim managing director for the local region while a permanent replacement is found for Mesaros, who has held the role since late 2015.

Mesaros took to social networking site, LinkedIn, on 3 April to announce his move and thank the thank his team in Australia and New Zealand, along with HP’s channel and alliance partners in the local region for their hard work, commitment and support.

“As much as I am looking forward to this next challenge, the decision to move on from my role leading HP South Pacific was far from easy,” Mesaros said in a blog post on LinkedIn. “The last six years at HP have been my most memorable.

“Back in 2012, I was asked to assemble and lead a newly formed business unit as Vice President and General Manager: Printing and Personal Systems (PPS). Three years later, with separation, I was given the incredible opportunity and privilege of leading South Pacific (Australia and New Zealand) for HP Inc.

“To run my home sub-region has been a dream come true; a career highlight and an incredible honour,” he said.

Mesaros is an HP veteran, having been with the company in various roles since 2010. He was vice president and general manager of HP’s printing and personal systems group for the South Pacific region from 2012 to late 2015, when HP split into two companies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and HP Inc.

In his blog post, Mesaros talked up some of HP’s more recent wins in the industry, paying particular attention to its acquisition of Samsung’s printer business for US$1.05 billion, along with some of its developments in the 3D printing space.

“In the last year alone, we became known for our premium and gaming ranges; our Samsung acquisition and entry into the A3 market; introducing 3D printing to APJ; leading end point security; and inspiring a print renaissance through game-changing devices like the Sprocket,” Mesaros said.

“We have pushed the business forward by investing in our customers, partners, people and brand, leveraging HP’s most innovative product line-up ever,” he said.

Late last year, Mesaros told ARN that the company had sold more than 80,000 printers over the preceding 12 months, and that it was also seeing growth across adjacent markets, such as 3D printing.

“Our aspiration is to become a leader in this space which represents net new business for our channel," Mesaros said at the time.

“There isn’t a competitor in the market today with our portfolio. There are print competitors and there are PC competitors but we are the only vendor doing both," he said.

Gracey will step in as HP's interim South Pacific managing director from the beginning of May.

"The business is in very good hands," Mesaros said.
