Regional and remote high speed internet provider, South Western Wireless Communications Company (SWWCC) and an associated telecommunications hardware firm, Tups Company, have gone into voluntary administration.

With offices in Sydney, Rockhampton and Emerald, South Western Wireless has made a name for itself building portable modular data centres that are used for wireless internet services in regional and remote communities.

The company employs specially modified 20-foot shipping containers with technology to provide a wireless hub for communities that can link to other units up to 30 KMs distant to form a kind of “mesh” for delivery capability and can be extended to long distances where needed.

As outlined online, the company claims to have deployed nine of its locally-built units around the country.

On 2 March, the business was placed into administration, with Adam Shepard of Farnsworth Shepard, appointed administrator.

According to documents lodged with the Australian corporate regulator, the company’s list of creditors include Sydney-headquartered IT services firm Correct Solutions, telecommunications providers AAPT and Vocus, and Queensland electrical wholesaler Haymans Electrical.

The company entered administration owing more than $71,000 to Vocus and over $53,000 to AAPT.

At the same time, mobile data and wireless communication equipment provider, Tups Company, was also placed into voluntary administration.

As with South Western Wireless Communications Company, Farnsworth Shepard was appointed as the company’s administrator on 5 March, just days after the wireless internet service provider.

Tups Company, which names HP, Oracle and Microsoft among its partners, claims South Western Wireless Communications Company as one of its main customers. The companies are registered with the corporate regulator at the same Sydney address.

Tups, which stands for Technology, UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply), kits out standard 20-foot shipping containers with hardware for data storage and processing, wireless communications, disaster recovery capability. These are designed to be delivered to remote sites by road or rail.

The kitted out shipping containers are designed to provide remote sites with wireless network coverage, providing local wireless broadband access as a point-to-point secured solution, local web hosting facilities and data storage.

It is understood that both companies currently remain in operation while under external administration.
