Acronis accelerates channel Cloud push with new trans-Tasman GM

Former IBM, Juniper Networks, Symantec and Veritas veteran takes charge of local channel

Acronis has appointed Tony Drewitt as General Manager for Australia and New Zealand, replacing the departed Lincoln Goldsmith who left the vendor in January.

As a former Veritas and Symantec executive, Drewitt will oversee sales, marketing and business development activities supporting the vendor’s growing hybrid Cloud data protection business in the region, which includes backup, disaster recovery, file sync and share, monitoring and storage.

With over 25 years of sales and commercial experience, Drewitt has held a number of executive leadership roles with service providers, telecommunications carriers, and Cloud technology vendors in Australia.

Prior to joining Acronis, Drewitt ran the APAC Global Alliances and Service Provider channel business at Veritas, and held senior roles at Symantec, Juniper Networks, IBM, Vodafone and British Telecom.

“I see great potential for Acronis solutions in the region,” Acronis A/NZ General Manager, Tony Drewitt, said.

“Australia and New Zealand are advanced markets and Cloud technology has already been embraced here by businesses of all sizes - because of its availability, cost effectiveness, and flexibility.

“Acronis brings the much needed data protection layer to these users whose data is increasingly spread across hybrid Cloud IT environments and on to mobile devices.”

Since the opening of the local Acronis Cloud datacentre in Sydney in 2015, and the introduction of a new Cloud partner program earlier this year, Acronis has experienced strong growth in the region as businesses on both sides of the Tasman embrace Cloud.

With both Australia and New Zealand seen as “strategic growth” markets for Acronis, Drewitt said the vendor will continue investing in talent locally, with plans in place to triple the company’s partner ecosystem during the next five years.

Consequently, Drewitt is responsible for building on the strong momentum achieved locally, with a focus on expanding and enabling Acronis channel partners, including service providers and Cloud resellers.

“Businesses in the Australia and New Zealand region need to re-evaluate their data protection strategies to make sure they are safe - there’s no time waste,” Acronis Vice President of Sales for Asia-Pacific & Emerging Markets, Steve Goh, added.

“With Tony’s deep knowledge of our target customer needs, extensive experience in channel management, and a true understanding of the value of Cloud services and solutions, Tony will bring a great value to Acronis and the local market.”

Drewitt will be working from Acronis’ Australian office in North Sydney, and will report directly to Goh.
