Veeam launches direct restore to Microsoft Azure

Enables restoration or migration from on-premise to public Cloud

Backup and disaster recovery vendor, Veeam Software, has launched its direct restore to Microsoft Azure service.

The solution is available in the Azure marketplace and takes on-premises workloads and restores or migrates them to the Cloud using an automated physical-to-virtual or virtual-to-virtual conversion process.

Veeam Software, chief executive, Ratmir Timashev, said the flexible, scalable and cost-effective nature of the hybrid Cloud was becoming more compelling to IT administrators, and Azure was experiencing strong market penetration and momentum.

“Direct Restore extends current investments in Veeam Availability solutions for our users and also enables them to fully utilise the power of the Cloud. Veeam provides IT administrators with the flexibility and scalability of Microsoft Azure and the availability and data management expertise.”

Veeam said that through the new offering, users could restore Windows-based VMs, physical servers or endpoints to Azure to minimize business disruption. It also provides for planned workload migrations from on-site to Cloud to reduce on-site resource constraints. Azure-based test environments can be created for testing backup reliability as well as for patches and critical updates to mitigate risks associated with application deployment.

Veeam provides the capability to store backups in Azure with Veeam Cloud Connect (VCC) for the Enterprise (VCC-E), which is also available in the Azure Marketplace.

It can restore backups directly, meaning customers can use Azure as an on-demand Cloud Datacentre for disaster recovery (DR) and benefit from its flexible and scalable cloud resources.
