Kaspersky Lab patents new virtual desktop technology

Technology looks to prioritise data-scanning tasks on virtual machines

Kaspersky Lab has patented a new technology that has been integrated in Kaspersky Security for Virtualization - Light Agent, designed to prioritise data-scanning tasks on virtual machines.

The security software company said the technology speeds up processing of high-priority scan requests in real time, while maintaining virtual machine performance.

Kaspersky said it also raises the processing priority for on-access scanning of user applications (OAS) tasks, that positively affects the performance of virtual servers or virtual workstations by reducing the response time from the antivirus engine.

“While developing this solution to protect Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and VMware vSphere virtual infrastructure environments, we focused on two key requirements: minimal impact on performance and maximum safety,” Kaspersky Lab product manager, Alexander Onishchenko, said.

“The patented technology makes it possible to quickly process loads for the protection of virtual servers and workstations due to the optimal distribution of scheduled tasks, taking into consideration the entire load on the virtual infrastructure”.
