HP enters security analytics market

Algorithmic-driven approach trumps the more common rules-based approach

HP has introduced its new security analytics solution, HP DNS Malware Analytics (DMA).

The solution was launched at HP Protect, the vendor’s annual enterprise security user conference.

Developed in partnership with HP Labs and the vendor’s Cyber Defence Centre, the clientless, algorithmic-driven service is said to uncover infected hosts without endpoint agents.

HP said the solution uses an algorithmic engine as opposed to the more common rules-based approach. As a result, the vendor claimed the solution reduces false positives by a factor of 20 over other malware detection systems.

HP South Pacific general manager, enterprise security products, Shane Bellos, said, “The new HP DNS Malware Analytics solution effectively puts the data science necessary to derive malware detection from voluminous DNS server events in a package for customers large and small.”

He claimed when combined with the powerful HP ArcSight SIEM platform it provided next-generation SIEM capabilities to better protect the enterprise.

Additionally, HP DMA is integrated with the HP ArcSight SIEM platform and has Cloud reporting.
