Melbourne-based reseller, Organiser World, has been put up for sale one week after administrators were called into the embattled business.
Joint administrators, Michael Humphries and Steve Dickson from BDO, were appointed to the 10-year-old company on February 17. Organiser World continues to trade while in administration.
A spokesperson for BDO told ARN the business was advertised for sale on February 23. At this stage, it is unclear why the company appointed BDO.
According to its website, Organiser World specialises in a range of mobile computing devices including PDAs, notebooks, external and flash storage, mobiles, networking hardware, navigation tools, IT accessories and Microsoft software. Brands featured include Linksys by Cisco, Seagate, Synology, HP, Asus, Sony, BlackBerry, HTC, Palm, Samsung and Nokia. It was also an Optus dealer.
As well as an online presence, Organiser World maintained a retail shopfront on LaTrobe Street, Melbourne. The company’s owner and director, Steve Sioulas, had not responded to requests for comment at time of press.
Multimedia Technology managing director, John Hassall, said the distributor was a creditor but was owed less than $10,000. Both Synnex and Simms International are also exposed as creditors, but the managing directors of both organisations said they were owed less than $5000. Synnex managing director, Kee Ong, added he was surprised by administrator appointment as Organiser had been servicing its account over recent months.
Simms' Danny Moore expressed disappointment at hearing other reseller business had hit hard times.
“The thing is in this environment, credit insurers are being very careful and more rigourous in their due diligence when you want to expand credit availability,” he said.
Niche distributor Tegatech, and hardware distributor, FortuneTec also confirmed Organiser World was a longstanding reseller partner, but neither claimed to be on the creditors’ list. Meanwhile, an Optus spokesperson confirmed it was a creditor and was working through the standard process with BDO.
