Infotronics inks thin client deal

Distributor seeks to attract VMware and Citrix partners interested in VDI

Infotronics has struck a deal with German-based thin client vendor, IGEL Technology.

IGEL's offerings provide users with secure, local and remote access to desktop applications that run on Citrix XenApp virtual desktops (VDI), Microsoft Windows terminal services, blade PCs and legacy terminal emulation based systems. Infotronics technical director, Phil Lancaster, said it had been actively looking for a replacement for Neoware after it was acquired by HP last year.

Neoware ended its distribution agreement with Infotronics in December last year.

"We've been actively looking for a replacement and we knew IGEL was trying to open up in the market," Lancaster said. "It was a good fit and they saw how well we had done with the Neoware product when we had it. We've been focused in the server-based computing and VDI area."

Infotronics distributes a range of server-based computing vendors such as AppSense, ThinPrint and Provision. Lancaster said it had been doing a lot of work with VMware partners that had been seeking to tap into the VDI space. It will also target the new IGEL range at Citrix partners.

"We've got a lot of products that enhance the terminal server offerings in Citrix," he said.

Infotronics will also be seeking integration partners in each state and will be touring the country with IGEL to provide sales and technical training for partners.
