Portugal-based solutions and services provider Compta is seeking to on-board Australian IBM partners to help take its fire prevention and detection solution to market.

The solution won the IBM Watson Build global program, which attracted more than 500 participants.

The program aims to help solutions come to life and encourages partners to come up with an idea, business plan, and work on developing the solution leveraging IBM Watson services. And finally help take the overall winning solution to market.

Specifically, Compta developed a new approach to fire prevention and detection systems for forests and industries, using artificial intelligence and predictive analytics.

The relevance of the solution, the technologies behind it along with its go-to-market strategy, were some of the factors that led towards Compta winning the challenge. The solution is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2019.

Compta international business developer, Vasco Correia, said it had been working within the wild/bush fire sector for about six years, using various technologies from thermal to optical cameras, and satellite systems.

He now has his sights firmly set upon the Australian, North American and European markets, climates that are the most susceptible to this type of natural disaster.

One avenue that can help Compta gain traction in the Australian market is through the recently announced Business Partner Connect portal, which focuses on helping partners tap into the global ecosystem to collaborate on client opportunities, develop new business and bring new solutions to market.

“Our solution now is bringing artificial intelligence to wild/bush fire detection and prediction of the behaviour of fires,” Correia said. “With artificial intelligence, we can detect wild/bush fires in very early stages and we can help in assisting and recommending the fire fighting measures to be applied on the terrain.”

The solution can be applied and integrated on top of existing infrastructure such surveillance cameras and monitoring systems.

“We don’t have a local presence in Australia, but it’s part of our strategy to work with local partners and build a local ecosystem," he said. "We’re working on some possible partner candidates at the moment.

"We currently do have some customers that are very excited to start testing this solution. At the same time, we’re talking with partners to take this to market as fast as we can."
