F5 Networks’ local managing director Robert Malkin has been named as Commvault’s new area vice president in Australia and New Zealand, replacing Dan Kieran, who held the role since 2016.

“Dan built and led a great team with his highly professional touch in the last two years,” a spokesperson for Commvault told ARN. “We thank Dan for his commitment to Commvault and wish him all the best.

“Rob Malkin will assume the role of area vice president for A/NZ. Rob’s experience in both enterprise and channel sales strategies makes him a great fit for Commvault,” the spokesperson said.

Malkin comes to the role after nearly two years at F5 Networks, which he joined in June 2016 following a decade of various roles at Autodesk, with his final position before departing for F5 Networks being Asia Pacific manufacturing and Internet of Things (IoT) sales director.

Malkin has also spent time at Oracle, where he served for four years as professional services director, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he held the role of senior principal consultant for supply chain and product lifecycle management.

It was revealed in March that Malkin was replaced by former Brocade A/NZ country manager Jason Baden who was subsequently named as F5 Networks’ regional vice president, sales, in Australia and New Zealand.

Kieran departs from his role at Commvault after just over two years heading up the local operations of the US-headquartered data protection and information management software vendor.

Kieran came to the role after serving for the better part of five years as Dell EMC’s senior director, emerging technology for Isilon in Asia Pacific. He was initially engaged by Dell EMC to the lead mid-tier and Isilon storage business units for Australia and New Zealand.

Like Malkin, Kieran has also done time with Oracle, which he joined as a member of the Sun Microsystems business, which was acquired by Oracle in 2010.

Kieran was with Sun Microsystems for over a decade before its acquisition by Oracle, spending his final three years with the company as senior manager, partners and alliances in Australasia.

Once Sun was brought under the control of Oracle, Kieran served as Oracle’s senior director, storage solutions, Australasia.

The local leadership shuffle comes less than two months after Commvault revealed it would replace Neil Robert Hammer, its longtime CEO, as part of a new strategic plan that was flagged by the company’s board following a “constructive” dialogue with an activist investor.
