Potential buyers are eyeing off parts of BMS Technology just days after the 30-year old Adelaide-based distributor called in administrators.
Peter Macks and Ian Burford of Macks Advisory were appointed as joint administrators to the business on 10 October.
The first creditors' meeting will be held on 19 October. Macks said the administrators are still waiting for the director’s statement of affairs to help determine how much was owed to its creditors when the company went into voluntary administration.
Macks revealed that it is talking to a number of parties who expressed interest in the BMS business, which has office and warehouse facilities in Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne.
Leader Computers managing director, Theo Kristoris, confirmed it was looking into BMS’ assets but was still waiting on news from administrators.
Macks said that it has also engaged with certain staff to deal with issues in relation to the distributor’s stock, suppliers, returns and repairs, so that customers aren’t too disadvantaged.
In October last year, BMS celebrated its 30-year milestone. Its distribution stable included Toshiba notebooks and accessories, Netgear, Eaton, Kyocera and its own-branded BMSTECH products featuring data cabinets, racks and cabling products.
BMS also touted itself as the only Australian Toshiba distributor that was also a Toshiba Premier Authorised Service provider, meaning that resellers could deal with one company for their notebook upgrades, configuration work, warranty and repairs.
It had a service department based in Adelaide, which won many service awards including Toshiba ProCare service award.

The company began operating in 1986 as a reseller providing IT products to the education market in South Australia.
In 1992, BMS Technology was formed as a wholesale ICT distribution company owned by John Reid who was the managing director and his wife, Beverley Reid who was the company secretary.
BMS’ general manager, Anthony Szabo, joined the company in 1987, starting out as a service technician before moving into product and sales management and then becoming the general manager in 2000.
In 2012, John and Beverley moved to Perth and opened up a new Osborne Park office and warehouse and also opened a Melbourne office in December last year in Oakleigh South.

At the time, John Reid pointed out that BMS was a strong contender in the Australian distribution landscape, which was falling to foreign ownership.
“At BMS Technology we have many years of experience in the wholesale industry, we have refined our order processing and fulfilment systems to the point that we can offer in-stock products for collection or dispatch within the hour," Reid said.
