SAP has deepened its partnership with Google by adding additional certification of SAP technology and applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

The German software giant has broadened its relationship with the cloud provider originally announced in March which saw SAP run its flagship products on GCP.

Now, the two are working to make SAP’s cloud platform on GCP available globally, and are collaborating on machine learning, the IoT, data transparency and custodian services, and workplace productivity.

“SAP is a proud partner of all three of the largest cloud infrastructure vendors – Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure,” SAP head of product and innovation, Bernd Leukert, said in a blog post.

“We will also continue to focus on our own fully scalable infrastructure-as-a-service offering SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud with fully-managed services. By pursuing this strategy, we are offering a broad and flexible portfolio across the choice of platform,” he said.

As part of the deal, SAP’s netweaver platform has been added to GCP, and certification of the Hanna database on GCP for larger instances and scale-out as well as a data connector for the SAP analytics cloud solution for Google big query.

The two companies said they plan to combine SAP’s business process expertise with Google’s machine learning services, such as the Translate and Speech APIs, and the open source library for machine learning, TensorFlow.

“We’re continuing to implement our joint vision with SAP around future integrations with key SAP solutions in addition to existing integrations between G Suite and SAP solutions like SAP Anywhere, Concur and BusinessObjects Lumira,” Google Cloud head of global technology partners, Nan Boden, said in a blog post.

Demystifying the cloud

In addition the company used its global conference to reiterate its “pledge to listen to its customers and act on their biggest concerns.” This resulted in the company launching two websites to effectively explain its Cloud offerings and how to use them.

The first of these is the SAP Cloud Trust Center, which puts all the information about the company’s platform in the public domain. The second is a web-based tool for users to explain the company’s products and solutions.

In addition, SAP launched more features for its Leonardo innovation portfolio including machine learning–enabled applications for corporate functions such as invoicing, customer service and retention. There is also a new Blockchain service for building application extensions and new solutions using distributed ledger technology.

“SAP also is integrating SAP Leonardo capabilities with its existing applications to make them more powerful and intelligent, and will offer services for developers and partners to build their own custom applications supported by a network of SAP Leonardo Centers with initial locations in New York, Paris, São Leopoldo and Bangalore,” the company said.

To round out the new offerings for its digital brand, SAP also launched a new digital twin solution and services to optimise asset management with the IoT.

To cap off the new features in Leonardo, SAP also announced a collaboration with Deloitte to deliver offerings that it said can can accelerate innovation, bolster the core and unlock exponential value.
