Dimension Data wins $4.8M IT deal from the Department of Social Services

The systems integrator wins its second multimillion-dollar deal with a major Government department in as many weeks

March is turning out to be a good month for Dimension Data, with the systems integrator winning its second multimillion-dollar deal with a major Federal Government department in as many weeks.

The company has been awarded a five-year, $4.8 million contract from the Federal Department of Social Services for the provision of IT equipment.

More specifically, the contract is for the provision of network switching, wireless services and video conferencing equipment, from March 2017 to June 2022.

“The provision of this equipment is to ensure the Department can meet its current and future IT operational requirements, including for the new DSS National Office in Tuggeranong,” the a Department of Social Services spokesperson told ARN.

The deal was awarded after the Department released a Request for Quotation to members of the Department of Finance procurement panel in December 2016.

“Responses were evaluated and Dimension Data was named the Preferred Supplier,” the spokesperson said.

Other suppliers on the panel include Data#3, Fujitsu, Telstra, Hewlett-Packard Australia, Dell Australia, EMC and IBM.

The win comes as Dimension Data snaps up a $6.65 million contract to support services contract to assist Australia’s Department of Defence in the delivery of its IT projects.

The contract, also awarded in March, sees the local arm of the South African systems integrator support Defence’s Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) in managing the design and delivery of its IT projects for the various groups and services within the Defence Information Environment.

The Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG), the Department of Defence division that Dimension Data is supporting through the new contract, manages more than 6,000 servers, three primary data centres, and over 100,000 workstations.

March has also seen the announcement that drinks company Frucor had engaged Dimension Data for a project that sees the consolidation of Frucor’s data centres from seven to just two to support more nimble service delivery and cost savings.

“Dimension Data’s Managed Cloud Platform (MCP) offers an excellent solution for Frucor that unifies the New Zealand and Australian businesses, and brings more resilience to the company,” Frucor’s group Digital Strategy and Planning Manager, Gavin Sharkey, said at the time.
