Publicly-listed IT and managed services provider, SMS Management and Technology, has elevated former account director, Rob Absolom, to the role of state director for South Australia.

SMS counts Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, IBM, Symantec and Cisco among the portfolio of vendors for which it is a local partner.

The advisory, solutions, managed services company, which is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), said that Absolom’s key focus in his new role will be on leveraging the state’s digital push to drive further interest in SMS’s solutions.

Absolom will also be charged with fostering the company’s local pool of talent in Adelaide, which the company suggests is gradually building up a reputation as a key digital hub for Australia.

“We look forward to expanding our South Australian business with Rob at the helm. His broad global experience and in depth local market expertise makes him an ideal fit to lead the team and grow our operations.” SMS CEO, Rick Rostolis, said.

The new appointment comes after four years of service from Absolom in the company’s Adelaide-based operation, as part of its South Australian leadership team, and as a senior consultant and account manager prior to his new role.

“With digital transformation sweeping the globe and changing every one of our lives in so many ways – both personally and professionally, it is a privilege to work for an organisation, and a team here locally in South Australia, leading these conversations with our client base,” Absolom said.

“I am very excited about our prospects in Adelaide and am looking forward to working with our clients, partners and broader economic ecosystem within the state to assist in harnessing the opportunities technology offers us to drive increased benefits for our customers,” he said.

Absolom has been working in the IT space for more than 18 years. Before landing a senior consultant role with SMS in 2012, he held senior project delivery roles with BHP Billiton, and worked as an account manager for Australian financial services technology company, Bravura Solutions.

Absolom's appointment follows SMS's move to take on former UK-based Salesforce strategic innovation senior director, Lee-anne Knight, as solutions director for its Salesforce business group. SMS is a platinum Salesforce partner.

“Our Salesforce Business Group represents a major part of our on-going business strategy,” Rostolis said at the time. “We are very pleased that Lee-anne has made the decision to join us and lead that team. She brings a wealth of knowledge of the market and of Salesforce solutions.”
