Deloitte is shopping for Australian talent as the global systems integrator's local cloud and infrastructure business expands at an unprecedented rate.

In response to local growth, the consultancy giant is advertising for cloud expertise in Sydney and Melbourne, but is also looking to expand its cloud and infrastructure footprint to other states and territories across Australia.

The new search comes after the company recently appointed former VCPro Director, Richard Youssef, to the cloud and infrastructure team.

According to Deloitte Partner Cloud and Infrastructure Solutions, Joshua Rubens - who joined the company following its acquisition of Cloud Solutions Group (CSG) in November 2015 - the GSI's growth ambitions in cloud is starting to materialise.

“Deloitte has seen explosive growth in the market and has a buy versus build strategy in some cases around how we can quickly get capability at scale,” Ruben told ARN, following the company's recent local acquisitions.

"Deloitte works across enterprise and the mid-market, but generally at the top end of town so it is critical that we have capability at scale."

The GSI’s swathe of cloud partner acquisitions began with CSG in 2015 to address the infrastructure, hybrid cloud market.

Deloitte then followed by acquiring Sixtree for its platform and automation expertise, alongside Plenary Networks for networking capabilities.

"All of those acquisitions have been successful, all the teams who have come across have since been expanded,” Rubens explained.

Rubens told ARN that the CSG team inside Deloitte had more than doubled in size since 2015, with the business unit also doubling revenue in the last year.

Rubens explained that much of this growth in the division was spurred by the recent partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

“We are certainly have a lot of momentum with Amazon globally and locally,” he said.

“There has been a bit of a focus on SAP and [enterprise resource planning] ESP on AWS. We have been involved in some really good projects locally working with the SAP team to help clients assess and build environments on AWS.

“One of the reasons we have grown is being that synergy between the other business units within Deloitte, and being able to take the full stack to clients.

Rubens said a prime example of this was the interaction his team has with the application development team at Deloitte, a move which provides a strong value proposition to the market and pure play or application infrastructure players.

“The other thing we are seeing is a growth of cloud adoption in enterprise," he added. "The large clients are wanting to tackle cloud and being at Deloitte, gives us access to those engagements."

Rubens explained that particularly in enterprise, cloud is more than just a technology challenge, it's an organisational change, impacting people and processes.

As a result, the division works closely with the Deloitte human capital division to help clients adjust to the cloud at an organisational level.

“We do the tooling cloud piece, but even more important to the enterprise is organisational change and the process change and I think that is resonating really well in the market,” he explained.

“It is becoming more of a business change, as the C-suite start to see it as a digital transformation exercise, they are starting to get that they need to change the way they run the business.

“The most successful implementations are where it is coming from the top down, rather than a grass roots movement.
