Brisbane IoT integrator taps Cisco veteran for partnerships push

Cisco's Scott Reid joins RIoT in a move aimed at boosting strategic partnerships

Queensland Internet of Things (IoT) solutions integrator, RIoT, has taken on Cisco veteran, Scott Reid, as its new director of smart and connected networks, in a move aimed at boosting the company’s strategic partnerships.

Reid steps into the new role after working for more than 16 years at Cisco Australia – first as regional manager, public sector; and then as regional manager, Queensland, Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea.

RIoT, established in late 2015 and based in Brisbane, provides critical infrastructure cyber security services with a focus on OT and IT projects, as well as enterprise security and network architecture. Its roster of vendor partners includes Nutanix, Trend Micro, Blue Coat, Cisco, F5, Splunk, and Riverbed.

In his new role, Reid is tasked with growing RIoT’s business with major customers and developing strategic partnerships with organisations that specifically require services in network architecture and cyber security for IoT solutions.

“Scott’s extensive experience and leadership in IoT will bring a whole new dimension to the way in which we target services for the design, implementation and security of IoT type solutions,” RIoT Solutions managing director and founder, Rob Merkwitza, said.

“Our business is on an accelerated trajectory, growing from one founder to 15 full-time employees in just one year. Scott will be a real boost to our already successful team bringing inspiration, experience and extensive knowledge to our long term IoT strategy,” he said.

In addition to his time at Cisco, Reid has also been a frequent speaker and thought leader in the area of smart and connected cities, including leading the “South East Queensland Smart Region” report on the application of smart technologies to South East Queensland.

“As connected communities and societies evolve over the next 20 years, having a vision to drive the transformation from traditional infrastructure to a fully digital one, and to do it securely, puts RIoT solutions at the forefront of innovation in this area,” Reid said.

“While plenty of companies are talking about IoT, there has been very little execution to date. RIoT Solutions has a really strong focus on IoT. It’s a major part of what they do, which gives them a competitive advantage no one else can match,” Reid said.
