Cloud-based accounting software company, Xero, has lost one of its key executive team members, with chief product officer, Angus Norton returning to the US.

A US native, Norton is stepping down after two years and five months with the company, having joined the growing New Zealand-based business from Microsoft in November 2014.

Xero CEO, Rod Drury, said the company is "sincerely grateful" to Norton for his product leadership during his time at Xero.

"He has helped us establish a world-class globally distributed product capability with several development offices in New Zealand, Australia and the US," he adds.

Going forward, Drury said the company’s chief platform officer, Duncan Ritchie, will resume responsibility for the global product team, effective immediately.

Ritchie says his immediate focus will be incorporating the platform and product teams together as the company completes its platform migration to AWS.

Over the last year, Xero has made additions to its global leadership team adding Sankar Narayan as chief financial officer, Tony Stewart as chief data officer, Rachael Powell as chief people officer and Kirsty Godfrey-Billy as chief accounting officer reporting into Sankar Narayan.
