Network innovation businesses, NEC Corporation and Juniper Networks, have expanded their global alliance relationship to deliver Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV)-based solutions.

The partnership allows service providers and enterprises to gain greater service agility to transform their business operations and help them lower overall costs.

NEC and Juniper have been working together since 2003 with a common goal of offering robust solutions for service providers and enterprises, and focusing on key areas, such as microwave/IP backhaul and optical/IP integration, that deliver dynamic, application-aware network performance.

The joint solutions combine the NEC Cloud System (OSS building model), which is an OpenStack-based Cloud infrastructure, with NetCracker’s OSS/BSS systems, end-to-end service orchestration, systems integration capabilities and consulting options along with Juniper Networks’ networking equipment and virtual network functions (VNFs).

NEC will leverage Juniper Networks’ NFV-ready hardware and software within its enterprise virtualised Customer Premises Equipment (vCPE) solution for the flexibility of a virtualised service environment.

When combined with NetCracker OSS/BSS and end-to-end service orchestration capabilities, the solution can provide service providers and enterprise customers with a means of delivering Cloud-based business services in a fully automated fashion.

NEC Corporation senior vice-president, Atsuo Kawamura, said the global alliance relationship expands to include software-defined networking (SDN) and NFV-based solutions to aid customers in their business transformation journey.

“NEC is thrilled to be working closely with Juniper through this expanded alliance, which will further reinforce the ecosystem and allow NEC and Juniper to jointly offer NFV-based solutions that enable the introduction of innovative new services at higher speed and lower cost,” Kawamura said.

Juniper Networks executive vice-president and chief customer officer, Vince Molinaro, said the long-standing relationship with NEC represents the combination of technology coupled with a global GTM approach that is strategic and allows both companies to play to their strengths.

“By harnessing the power of automation and orchestration through SDN and NFV, and by supporting customers as they navigate their OSS transformation journey, Juniper and NEC are well-positioned to help customers capitalise on their IT and network investments.”

The two companies are also working together to expand into new and developing markets, with a focus on Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Key investment areas include integrated technical teams and lab environments to road-test latest solutions and targeted industry initiatives, such as IoT, retail-as-a-service, and surveillance-as-a-service offerings.
