Samsung Electronics Australia, in partnership with the Sydney Opera House, have unveiled a digital display showcasing one of the world’s busiest performing arts centre. Powered by Samsung technology, the 12-screen feature wall is specially designed for visitors to engage more deeply with the iconic building and its new Welcome Centre.

The Welcome Centre, officially opened by minister for the environment, Greg Hunt, and Sydney Opera House CEO, Louise Herron, is the first project to be completed under Stage 1 of Sydney Opera House Renewal, a program of works to prepare this important building for future generations.

At the heart of this renewal is a focus on using technology to enhance visitor engagement and the ‘Welcome Wall’ – an alignment of twelve 46-inch Samsung HD screens display a series of animations that tells a visual story of the Opera House.

It is a permanent outdoor installation, operating around the clock, every day.

Samsung Electronics Australia corporate vice-president and chief marketing officer, Philip Newton, said as principal partner, Samsung is working closely with the Sydney Opera House to increase visitor access and engagement through technology.

“We are honoured to be able to use our technological expertise to enrich the Sydney Opera House experience, for future generations of artists, audiences and visitors, as part of its Decade of Renewal,” he said.

Herron claimed Samsung has helped to create a more engaging visitor experience at the new Welcome Centre, and innovative technology will be central to other renewal projects too.

“Our aim is to create new ways for people to experience the Sydney Opera House and all it offers – whether that’s a contemporary music concert or a talk by the world’s leading thinkers, classical arts performances or creative shows for children and families.

“Thanks to the support of Principal Partner Samsung, which has enabled this innovative display of the arts inside, we’re now better equipped to do this,” Herron indicated.
