Blue Coat has acquired Cloud security company, Elastica, in a $US280 million dollar deal to boost its Cloud security stack.
Elastica is a specialist Cloud application security broker (CASB), best known for its CloudSOC software, which focuses on threat scoring powered by machine learning, user and end-point behaviour modelling, natural language-based Cloud data loss prevention, with a Cloud application SOC.
The company is focused on risk analysis and policy management, particularly important in the “shadow IT” market. Elastica delivers these capabilities via its CASB gateway and API controls for Cloud application security management and enforcement.
Blue Coat has invested over $500 million in organic and inorganic Cloud security growth in recent years, and the integration of Elastica will see 15,000 customers serviced.

Blue Coat said that the traditional security approaches simply cannot deliver in the Cloud generation of technology. The rapid adoption of Cloud applications with limited oversight has created unprecedented security risks, outside the eye of the CIO.
