Unified communications provider, ShoreTel, has purchased hosted voice services provider, M5 Networks Australia.
Terms of the deal haven’t been revealed. ShoreTel purchased the US arm of M5 Networks in February 2012, but left the Australian operation untouched until now.
M5 has headquarters in Canberra and an office in Melbourne. The company was established in 2002 and its core technology partners include Cisco and Optus Wholesale.
The acquisition is part of Shoretel’s expansion plans and arms them with a hosted voice solution in the region.
In statement, Shoretel CEO, Don Joos, said it was a strategic step to grow its Cloud offering outside of the US market.
“The purchase of M5 Australia will enable us to quickly accelerate our roll-out in the country, leveraging our existing employees and established partner base. I’m pleased to welcome the M5 Australia employees to the ShoreTel family,” Joos said.
M5 Australia managing director, Richard Ruth, said it created greater opportunities for its employees and to expand its product portfolio.
ShoreTel A/NZ managing director, Jamie Romanin, said it has already began integrating the two companies and there were no planned redundancies.
"Cloud communications is a growing market in Australia," he said. "More customers are asking about Cloud communications and we think it will become a significant part of our business in the next 12 - 24 months."
The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, and is expected to close this quarter.
