Global Cloud accounting company, Xero (ASX:XRO), has appointed Tony Stewart to the new role of chief data officer. The company said, in a statement on the ASX, that it established the new executive role to accelerate automation, business systems rollout, and Big Data innovation.

Xero CEO, Rod Dury, said Stewart’s expertise in business process automation, data analysis, and analytics will enable the company to benefit in terms of automation projects as well as strategic data assets.

“I am truly excited to have Tony join the Xero executive team. His knowledge of building technology growth companies, combined with his deep expertise will being significant benefit to the company,” he indicated.

Prior to his appointment at Xero, Stewart was the director and founder of specialised Microsoft systems integrator, Intergen. He helped the company from a start-up to now having an established presence in three countries during his 14 year tenure with the company.

Before that, he was the director of Signal Corporation for almost two years. Stewart also served at PartsTrader and X4 Consulting as its director.

He said being actively involved in the technology start-up scene has given him hands-on experience in financial management, human resources, sales and marketing, as well as technology leadership. He intends on using his experience in his new role.

Stewart will be based in Xero’s Wellington office in New Zealand.
