Multinational IT company, HP, has been named most attractive employer in ICT by recruitment and HR services company, Randstad. HP received the award at Randstad’s annual awards ceremony, which was recently held at Doltone House in Sydney.

HP held off strong competition to edge out Fujitsu and Optus, which took home the second and third spots respectively. HP also ranked #12 for the Randstad top 20 most attractive organisations in Australia title, losing out to award winner, Virgin Australia.

The Randstad awards are based on public perception – 12,002 Australians of working age were polled for the 2015 awards and HP ranked top with 43 per cent of respondents stating they would like to work for the company.

But that wasn’t the only finding to come out of the awards. The information, communication and technology sector, in general, came up as one of the top 10 most attractive industries to work in. It ranked #10, but given that this was the first time the sector made it on the list, its appeal is noteworthy.

Specifically, 33 per cent of those surveyed said they would like to work in ICT. They indicated that the ICT sector is particularly attractive as it provides interesting job content, a good work-life balance and career progression opportunities.

Aviation came out tops in that awards category, with Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and mining and natural resources following close behind.

Randstad technologies national director, Alex Jones, said both HP and the wider ICT industry have done an impressive job in building strong brands, and strengthening their image and reputation. He added that this, in turn, will attract great talent.

“Technology has been at the heart of economic changes for more than a decade. The challenge is about maintaining a strong ICT sector when it is critically short of talent, mostly resulting from our ageing population and the lack of graduates coming through from IT and STEM degrees.

“To be as appealing as possible to potential employees, organisations need to promote these defining characteristics through every aspect of their marketing, communication, HR and employer branding strategies, something the ICT sector does well,” he mentioned.
