Lenovo has strengthened its server business with the appointment of Dicker Data as an Australian distributor for its System x server business.

The move is a bid to target the Australian SMB market and will include the full range of System x towers servers, 1U and 2U servers, v3700 storage products and Lenovo networking.

The deal follows last year's October agreement with Avnet to distribute its high end servers including BladeCenter and Flex System blade servers and switches, x86-based Flex integrated systems, NeXtScale and iDataPlex servers and associated software, blade networking, and maintenance operations.

Avnet was previously the distributor for the x86 server business when it was owned by IBM.

Lenovo acquired the System x server business from IBM in October last year for $US2.3 billion.

Dicker Data chairman and chief executive, David Dicker, said his company's strength in the SMB market segment meant it was in the perfect position to grow Lenovo's enterprise business.

"Our partnership with Lenovo has gone from strength to strength over the years and I am confident we can get a mutually beneficial result from the extension of our arrangement," he said.

Lenovo channel sales manager, A/NZ, Fred Viet, said the company was pleased to be expanding its relationship with Dicker Data.

"Since 2012, the distributor has been supporting Lenovo A/NZ and has grown to be one of our largest partners," he said.

"With Dicker Data now on-board to distribute our high volume server and storage offerings in Australia, we have strengthened our already robust distribution network and can now deliver greater reach to service our reseller community.

"Dicker Data perfectly complement our SMB strategy and will aid us in growing our channel base and bolster Lenovo's SMB business."
