Harvey Norman has been named exclusive Australian launch partner for Nokia’s Lumia 1520 smartphone, making it the sole retailer of the vendor’s first ‘phablet’ play.
This means the device will not be sold through any traditional telecommunications carriers.
The Lumia 1520 is built with a 6-inch screen, making it Nokia’s “first ever large screen Lumia smartphone.” The display has resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, a boost over previous operating system restrictions which limited Windows Phone devices to 1280x720.
Inside the phablet is a quad-core, 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, the same chip which is used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and LG G2. There is also 2GB of RAM.
The Lumia 1520 will arrive on Harvey Norman’s shelves on December 11 in black, white and yellow, although pre-orders opened both in-store and online today.
The device will sell for $899, and includes 32GB of internal storage which can be further boosted via the built-in microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB. Nokia has also thrown in 7GB of SkyDrive Cloud storage.
A $20 app voucher for the Windows Phone Store is bundled as well.
Harvey Norman will also stock official Lumia 1520 Protective Covers (in yellow and black colours) for $34.95
