Websense protects bandwidth without censoring the entire Web

Content security and data theft protection solutions company, Websense is offering a solution that preserves bandwidth without major restrictions to Internet use.

The solution allows IT managers to regulate employee actions, reduce exposure to data-stealing attacks and command-and-control call-home traffic, without blocking potentially useful pages.

The five new URL categories which can be monitored and add to the 100 existing categories, include: dynamic DNS, viral video, surveillance URL, entertainment video and educational video.

Websense senior director of security research, Charles Renert, said, “Cybercriminals want to get into organisations, establish a presence, mine into the system, and steal data they can profit from – and the social web and dynamic NDS sites are prime avenues.”

The restriction policies offered as part of the solution to counter this include public access, time quotas, or permanent blocking of certain functions.

Websense also offers a set of over 30 new social Web controls through its Triton solution, which limits user actions on websites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The new URL category sets are applicable for all WEbsense customers running WEbsense Web Filtering, Web Security/Gateway/Anywhere and Hosted Web Security/Gateway running version 7 or higher.

Social Web controls are available to subscribers of Websense Triton and Web Security Gateway/Anywhere, running on version 7 or higher.
