Sydney-based consulting practise Cortell has secured two awards during the IBM PartnerWorld conference held in San Francisco.

The company picked up a SaaS (software-as-a-service) Excellence award as well as the Global Business Partner award for planning analytics.

Cortell director, Matthew Hill, started the company in early 2001, and was joined by his business partner, Nick Potts.

Hill said the two awards further validated its experience in their field and provided a good opportunity to attract new customers as well as consulting talent to its team of 60 staff.

Cortell focuses on business performance consulting, helping companies with their finance and operations such as budgeting, forecasting and planning, with locations across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra, servicing more than 400 clients.

Hill explained the global award for planning analytics, was based on the largest amount of revenue, which was spread across a number of Australian customer deals last year.

The SaaS Excellence award was based on two solutions the company built in relation to regulatory reporting for the financial sector and latter was centred on the mid-market sector in enabling them to run a forecasting or budgeting process, at a lower price point that can be deployed in a timely manner.

“Two years ago, we saw the mid-market -- organisations with revenue up to $150 million -- have a need for analytics, budgeting, forecasting, planning, reporting and AI but often the price tag was a bit too expensive for them,” Hill said.

“We worked with IBM to develop a solution to drop into an organisation, which plugs into all the major ERP vendors, so they can run a forecasting or budgeting process and be up and running in weeks, not months or a longer period of time. That’s taken off really well and we’ve got a lot of clients that have signed up to that.”

Hill noted the particular demand from clients to continually improve technology around providing data insights and analysis.

“They want to give their team the right tools and eliminate manual processes,” he said. “There’s a lot happening in the field of AI and machine learning. We’re doing a lot of work with organisations - showing them what can we do with it, putting prototypes in place, to help them really understand the value.”
