Dimension Data wins $7.1M Linux deal with Human Services

Agreement spans Red Hat Enterprise Linux software

Dimension Data has been awarded a $7.1 million contract with the Department of Human Services for software maintenance and support.

Specifically, the contract covers 1748 licenses of Red Hat Enterprise Linux software, in which the system integrator will provide Linux operating system software and professional support services.

Awarded on 8 August, the contract represents a renewal of current license subscriptions the department uses across multiple platforms and it for the period of one year.

The contract was awarded under the Department of Defence Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Services Commercial off the Shelf Software and Hardware panel, which was established in June 2012 and counts on 41 suppliers in total.

Earlier in the month, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation announced the future merger of Dimension Data, NTT Communications, NTT Data, NTT Security and NTTi3.

“The global market is changing fast,” a company statement read. “We’ve seen rapid progress in technology innovation; disruption caused by new business models, and the aggressive expansion of innovative competitors.

“These factors have led to clients’ increasing demand for digital transformation. We believe it’s an opportunity for us to create new value and increase our presence in the global market.”

Specifically, the group plans to establish a new holding company focused on global business, under NTT Corporation by the third quarter of the fiscal year ending 31 March 2019.

This entity will be called NTT Inc, with Jun Sawada, current CEO of NTT Corporation, serving as the provider’s new CEO.

Meanwhile in May, Dimension Data was awarded a $46.2 million multi-year contract by Transport NSW for the supply, maintenance and support of a multitude of server and desktop software products to the agency’s Transport Cluster.

The contract represented the first time that Transport NSW has engaged a single supplier as its primary software reseller.
