DNA dives into surveillance game with Avigilon agreement

Sydney-based business targets integration work around smart-everything, Internet-of-Things (IoT) and big data technologies

DNA Connect has deepened its surveillance solutions portfolio across Australia, after striking a deal with Avigilon Corporation.

Terms of the agreement will see the Sydney-based business distribute the vendor’s complete array of surveillance solutions, targeting integration work around smart-everything, Internet-of-Things (IoT) and big data technologies.

Founded in 2004, Avigilon is a Vancouver-based company that designs, manufactures and markets video surveillance software and equipment, targeting industries such as education, banking, health care and retail.

“DNA’s specialisations in IT and analytics will support the development of smarter solutions and will further help us expand into both industrial and IT verticals,” Avigilon vice president of sales Asia Pacific Graham Wheeler said.

According to Wheeler, the specialist distributor is a “great fit” due to solution-based experience built up over 24 years within the Australian market, allowing the vendor to tap into in-house CustomerConnect, TechConnect and KnowledgeConnect programs.

From a technology standpoint, Avigilon’s video analytics technology can automatically analyse video data from multiple sources to quickly locate persons and vehicles, with users capable of transforming video from a reactive, post incident tool to a proactive tool.

Since striking a deal, DNA has already started to integrate Avigilon’s video analytics information into its existing big data and IoT platforms.

“Avigilon is the perfect partner for us to work with to accelerate our goal of helping our channel partners bring the physical and digital worlds together,” DNA Connect director Munsoor Khan added.

“There is a growing need to integrate video data with IT data to build intelligent analytics systems that make smarter decisions. This is going to be especially important as technology continues to enhance urban environments.”

Going forward, Khan said DNA will “proactively serve” Avigilon’s existing customers that are already predominantly active in the physical security market.

DNA has local Avigilon stock in its Sydney-based warehouse, and uses air-freight to ensure timely delivery of orders placed on Avigilon’s factory in Richmond, Canada – typically delivering within 5-7 business days from placement of order.

“We have invested in training inside-sales and sales engineering teams, and taken a focused approach to only support one video surveillance vendor, Avigilon,” Khan added.

“This focused approach by DNA allows them to realise customer service efficiencies in areas such as timeliness of quotes, warranty claim turn-around times, and support functions such as training and tech support.”
