Deloitte wins $42.8M integration deal for Service Victoria project

Project includes additional contracts for AWS and Salesforce

Deloitte has been awarded a $42.8 million, three-year contract by the Victorian Government for its Service Victoria Systems Integrator Project.

The deal sees Deloitte Consulting provide an integrated services platform build and run services for the project, which is aimed at establishing a single platform via which Victorians can interact with the state government and access public services.

Two additional contracts related to the project have also been awarded, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) being handed a $1.7 million contract for the three-year duration of the program, and Salesforce taking home its own $1.7 million licensing subscription deal.

Each of the three contracts are set to run until at least 31 March 2020.

The Victorian Budget 2016/17, which was handed down in April last year, made a commitment of $81 million for the development of the Service Victoria platform, which was slated to help simplify how Victorians interact with government when it comes to basic transactions.

At the time, the state government said the disparate systems set up for Victorians to contact government entities cost around $461 million and, unless the government made changes, it would be expected to rise to $713 million by 2026.

It was hoped, at the time, that the creation of a central Service Victoria hub would modernise the delivery of the highest volume government transactions, such as car registration.

The $81 million funding commitment was expected to pay for new systems, processes and digital platforms to deliver a “better customer experience and tackle the rising costs of providing such services through multiple inefficient platforms”.

“Dealing with government websites is sometimes confusing, slow and annoying. Great customer service is a core function of any successful business, and government should be no different,” Special Minister of State, Gavin Jennings, said at the time.

“We don’t need a thousand different websites and hotlines for things like car registration, birth certificates and fishing licences.”

“Service Victoria is about eliminating the frustrations and delays and lowering the cost to the taxpayer,” he said.

Now, the project has clearly kicked off, with the new contracts awarded to Deloitte Consulting, AWS and Salesforce being listed with a start date of 21 April, 5 May and 10 May, respectively.
