Veritas Storage has been handed an $8.25 million contract from the Department of Defence for the provision of software.
The deal is the latest renewal of an ongoing relationship between the Department and the information management services provider, replacing an existing arrangement between the two organisations.
“The contract with Veritas Storage (Singapore) Pty Ltd is for the continuation of support and maintenance for information management capability within Defence including NetBackup, Backup Exec and Enterprise Vault Software,” a spokesperson for the Department of Defence told ARN.
Consequently, the contract, which runs from May this year to March 2020, was won via a limited tender process, and was awarded to Veritas Singapore.
The deal sees Veritas supply its wares to the Department of Defence’s Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG), which manages more than 6,000 servers, three primary data centres, and over 100,000 workstations across the Department.
The CIOG is a big buyer of IT services from external suppliers, awarding a $6.65 million project support services contract to Dimension Data earlier in the year to assistance to the Department of Defence in the delivery of its IT projects.
“These project management services are to support the Chief Information Officer Group in managing the design and delivery of extant ICT projects for the various groups and services within the Defence Information Environment,” a Department spokesperson said at the time.
The Department also recently dished out a massive multi-year print contract worth almost $80 million to Konica Minolta Australia.
At the same time, the CIOG continues to receive IT services Leidos Australia, which picked up at least $147.9 million worth of work over several years with the Department last year when it merged with Lockheed Martin’s IT services subsidiary, effectively taking over the military contractor’s Information Systems and Global Solutions (IS&GS) business.
The latest contract win comes as the Department’s CIOG division, which leads the integrated design, delivery and sustained operation of Defence’s Single Information Environment (SIE), heads up a long-term technology transformation.
The Department of Defence is one of the Federal Government’s biggest spenders on IT, with its latest strategic plan flagging an expected spend of $20 billion on IT over a 10-year period to 2020.
