Brings data management vendor into the fold

Exclusive Networks has signed a distribution deal with data management company, Rubrik, offering its products across Australia and New Zealand.

The vendor offers data management services which spread across on-premise, cloud, backup and disaster recovery, adopting a "rules-based approach" rather than a job-based approach to data management.

Rubrik tech evangelist, Chris Wahl, said that holistically, the company was trying to change the way companies manage IT infrastructure at the data centre level.

"We want to do things that are more declarative, more focussed on devops, more focussed on cloud," he said.

"These are things the CIO level want and things that make IT accelerate and interesting.

"If you look at Rubrik, it takes all those things companies want to do in the data centre, it is natively API driven, it is a scale out system, it is using declarative configuration and requires almost zero time to operate."

Wahl said that due to time and budgetary constraints, increasing efficiencies allows partners and customers to concentrate on devops and cloud instead of getting bogged down in operations.

Exclusive Networks managing director A/NZ, Dominic Whitehand, said Rubrik was going to help the distributor bed down its software defined datacentre solutions stack.

“When we look at all these new vendors coming into the market that talk about Web-scale, talk about hyper-convergence, talk about simplicity of use and operational efficiencies, this is absolutely a vendor which can deliver on that,” he said.

Rubrik has already had some deployments locally, one through Solista into a large Sydney-based law firm.

Solista director, Noel Allnutt, told ARN that the simplicity of the solution made it an easy sell to the client.

“It solves the age-old problem of backup, recovery and archival in about half a day,” he explained.

“It is just so easy to build, it is built to solve a problem more effectively whereas a lot of the other backup solutions solve a problem, the customer is no better off after a period of time, whereas Rubrik have the complete end to end solution.

“They have thought about backup, they have thought about recovery, but they have also thought about cloud, and that is the bit missing in most other vendors. Cloud has been an afterthought because their technology was not born in the cloud.

Allnutt explained that due to the nature of Rubrik’s technology and how it was engineered, cloud becomes a tick box and the migration tool allows customers to use cloud as it should be used for data which is important but needs to be billed in a utility model.
