Dropbox teams up with AARNet and CAUDIT

Companies look to bring greater savings to research and education sector

Dropbox has partnered with research and education network provider, AARNET and the Council of Australian University Directors of Information Technology (CAUDIT).

The collaboration looks to bring greater savings to Australian research and educational institutions as AARNet users will be able to access Dropbox ‘on-net’, meaning they will no longer have to pay for data resulting from traffic to and from the service.

Additionally, as part of the industry-wide procurement agreement with CAUDIT, research and education institutions will earn discounted Dropbox for Education licenses and a standard legal framework will be created to facilitate an easy deployment of the service on campus.

“Institutions across our research and education community are asking for Cloud solutions that support collaboration by securely meeting the storage needs of students, faculty and staff,” AARNET chief executive, Chris Hancock, said.

“The partnership with Dropbox is a great example of how we all work with Cloud technology companies to drive cost-efficient initiatives for the benefit of research and education."

Dropbox managing director for APAC, Charlie Wood, said the partnership goes to the heart of supporting the people who are helping to build a knowledge economy which is critical to Australia’s future prosperity.

“We are proud of our role in facilitating learning and knowledge exchange across the broad spectrum of institutions within this sector, both through partnership such as that we have with CAUDIT and AARNet and company initiatives like our Campus Cup which allows students and faculty at eligible universities to earn Dropbox space.”
