Network vendor, A10 Networks, has appointed Song Tang Yih to the role of Asia-Pacific vice-president. The new role was created for the company to increase its focus on its Asia-Pacific operations.

A10 Networks A/NZ managing director, Greg Barnes, said the region’s been split into three for the company – China, Japan and Asia-Pacific. Song will head the Asia-Pacific end (incuding Korea, India, and A/NZ), reporting directly to A10 Networks worldwide sales vice-president, Ray Smets.

Song mentioned that the channel will be his first point of focus in this role, which will in turn further develop A10’s business.

“Our channel is key because we sell through the channel. We’ve also recently rolled out our new Affinity Global Partner Program sometime last year so that requires my overseeing. Some of the strategies include grooming resellers, demand generation, and deal registrations,” he claimed.

Barnes added that within the A/NZ region, the company will be looking to further strengthen its security alliance, which has been key to its business thus far.

Song also said the company’s intending on increasing its investment into its sales and marketing division within the larger Asia-Pacific region. “It’s all about having the right people. Bringing in the relevant talent gets us out of our comfort zone in adapting to new skillsets and competencies.”

According to Song, technologies such as mobility, Big Data, security and Cloud computing will be the key trends that will frame A10’s growth in the near future.

“All these technologies focus on the user experience regardless of the device they’re using. A10 plays in this space, making sure applications are delivered across these networks in a consistent fashion,” he said.

Prior to joining A10 Networks, Song was the executive director and group president for SGX listed company, Advance SCT. He held on to that role for a little over two years. Before that, he filled the position of executive director and chairman of Metech International for 18 months.

Song also has experience in a number of big tech names in the industry – for about two years, he served at Palo Alto Networks as its Asia-Pacific vice-president and before that, held the same position at F5 Networks.

Joining IBM was Song’s first foray into the tech space, followed by Lotus Development. Since Lotus Development was acquired by IBM shortly after, he collectively served in the company for about 10 years.

Song said he believes his past experiences in these companies would help him through his new stint with A10 Networks. “I helped many of these companies through their growth stages. A10 is now at its inflection point so I hope my experience will help guide the company through its accelerated growth.”

He will be based in the company’s Singapore office, from where he will oversee all operations within the region.
