Fortinet is the first network security vendor to deliver a firewall that exceeds 1 terabit per second (Tbps) throughput performance.
The Californian-based firm also said its new firewall, the FortiGate 5144C offers 10, 40 and 100 Gigabit ethernet (GbE) options.
Fortinet founder and chief executive, Ken Xie, said major market drivers, such as Big Data, Cloud-based services and the explosion of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) translates to datacentres needing exceptionally fast and secure security platforms to protect their applications and data.
“Others have claimed to have the fastest firewall, but no other vendor has actually delivered this level of performance and security, which enables customers to build out their data centers for the future, knowing that their firewalls will not be a choke point.”
Fortinet has also become the second largest network security appliances vendor in the Asia-Pacific Japan (APJ) region according to data from IDC’s quarterly network security appliances tracker.
Cisco holds the largest market share, Fortinet is second with and Check Point is third. The APJ market is said to be worth $US611.65 million.
