Australian Government approves Samsung’s Galaxy S5 smartphone

Vendor’s flagship has been certified against the MDFPP standard

Samsung’s flagship smartphone for 2014, the Galaxy S5, has been approved for use within the Australian government, having earned Common Criteria Certification against the Mobile Device Fundamentals Protection profile (MDFPP) standard.

The device is now recognised as suitable for the protection of Government information at the Unclassified/Dissemination Limiting Marker (DLM) level.

MDFPP is developed by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), and requires a product to meet more than 80 security requirements. Some of these include key management, crypto module, device encryption, Wi-Fi security, screen lock, and mobile device management (MDM).

The Galaxy S5 has already been certified by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) for use in the US Military, Federal Agencies, and other regulated organisations including the Australian Signals Directorate.

“This is an endorsement of our investment and commitment to meet the strict security standards for government and enterprises in Australia which can rely on Samsung for mobile devices that come with strong, built-in security capabilities,” Samsung Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia enterprise and SMB vice-president, Craig Gledhill, said.
