ING Direct signs on to new Eftpos payments hub

ING to issue chip cards through new Eftpos payments hub

ING Direct will be among the first Australian financial institutions to issue chip cards to be used through the new Eftpos payments hub.

It is the first new organisation to join its membership since Australia's Eftpos payments network was formed as a company in 2009.

Eftpos Managing Director, Mr Bruce Mansfield, welcomed ING Direct to the Eftpos membership and congratulated the company for taking an active role in Australia’s domestic debit network at a time of rapid change in the payments industry.

He said ING Direct was already participating in the Eftpos transformation program and was expected to be among the first financial institutions in Australia to start issuing Eftpos chip cards and process transactions through the new Eftpos Hub.

“Eftpos is owned and operated by Australians and is an essential and valuable part of the fabric of everyday Australian life,” he said.

“We are very pleased that ING Direct has joined our membership and is already actively involved in a number of key projects to upgrade the network and help us to deliver Eftpos payment options on technology platforms such as online, mobile and contactless.

“The member-based and mutual structure of Eftpos places us in an ideal position to pursue innovative, industry-based payments solutions for Australian consumers, retailers and financial institutions into the future.”

ING Direct executive director customer, John Arnott, said Eftpos had been an important part of its Orange Everyday proposition, since launching the transaction account in 2010.

“We have always looked for payment methods that offer the best value and the most convenience for our customers and Eftpos ticks that box,” he said.

“Eftpos is an important part of the Australian payments landscape and we’re proud to be working with them on what the next evolution of payments could look like."
