Network Security company Fortinet has bolstered its patent portfolio with a raft of new additions based on inventions in virtualisation, remediation and deep content security.
Since January, the United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded Fortinet ten new patents based on Fortinet inventions in areas that include virtualization, incident response and remediation, and deep content security.
Fortinet holds more than 150 patents, has 120 pending patent applications and is on track to file more than 70 new applications this year.
Fortinet founder, CTO and chief executive, Michael Xie, said the the company was the undeniable leader in enterprise network security.

The newly issued patents include systems and methods for content type classification, content filtering of remote file-system access protocols, performing rate limiting within a network, policy-based content filtering, tunnel interface for securing traffic over a network, virus co-processor instructions,
They also include, hardware-accelerated packet multicasting in a virtual routing system, systems and methods for content type classification, determining technology-appropriate remediation for vulnerability and systems and methods for categorising network traffic content
Xie said the innovation extended beyond the core network security focus into a number of cutting-edge technology areas, such as software defined security and networking, incident response and remediation, secure wireless and wireless analytics, and cloud-based security and networking services.
