Optus has expanded its My Plan mobile repertoire with the introduction of mobile data sharing, new SIM-only plans, and revised bonus data fees.
Data sharing will allow consumers to split one mobile data allowance between up to five devices for a one-time charge of $5 per device. This means a SIM-ready tablet, pocket Wi-Fi or USB modem can utilise the same data as a mobile phone, eliminating the need for tethering.
The telecommunications provider’s new SIM-only plan will go live from June 10, and similar to Telstra’s post-paid BYO plans, is based on a month-by-month subscription.
Optus has dropped the price of the plan to $60 per month (the first month costs $70) from $65 and included two SIMs with 5GB of shared data (previously available with two standalone $20 MBB SIMs that include 2GB of mobile phone data, and two blocks of 1.5GB to use on two difference mobile broadband devices).
The telco will continue to offer its automatic data top-ups which will charge customers $10 for 1GB of extra data once their initial allowance is used. The service was introduced 12 months ago. While customers cannot opt out of the feature, Optus ensures it will send text alerts to communicate once the extra data is added to an account.
