Optus beats Telstra, CSC and Dimension Data for ATO deal

Optus secures $60.5 million-a-year ATO contract for managed network services

Optus has beaten Dimension Data, Telstra and CSC to secure a $60.5 million-a-year Australian Tax Office (ATO) managed network services contract.

Otpus was selected after being pitted against Dimension Data in the final stage of the tender process. Telstra (ASX: TLS) and CSC were both knocked out in December.

An ATO statement described the managed network services contract as the first of three ICT sourcing bundles. The deal requires Optus to deliver the following services: WAN and LAN, video conferencing, call centre infrastructure, telephony, and data and voice carriage.

The Australian Tax Office (ATO) also recently opened a tender to seek mainframe technical specialists to provide support to its mainframe developer base and a tender seeking system testers to prod and poke its ICT infrastructure in its multi-agency initiative aimed at simplifying business-to-government reporting, the Standard Business Reporting (SBR) program.

The ATO also has an end-user computing tender under evaluation with a contract to be in place by March 2010, and a centralised computing tender due to open in July 2009.

This week the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) also opened a $450,000 tender seeking offers for an Information Technology Desktop Asset Management (ITDAM) solution, while the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) opening a tender to seek a service provider for a $200,000 Cisco telephony contract to boost its unified communications strategy.

In late May, the Federal Government also announced it would create a panel of datacentre providers to supply space and services to agencies during the development of the whole-of-government datacentre strategy instigated as part of the Gershon review.
