The Department of Finance has launched a tender to replace the Federal Government’s ageing telecommunications infrastructure within the Australian Parliament House (APH).
The Federal department is seeking providers to rip out the existing fibre optic backbone underlying the Ministerial communications network (MCN) and replace it with a new cabling system.
The MCN delivers voice, video and faxes up to and including the security classification of ‘secret’ between ministers and other Government entities.
Overseen by the Government Network Services Branch (GNSB), which sits under Finance, the tender will include the supply and installation fibre optic cabling system and the intermediate distribution frames (IDF), plus the decommissioning and disposal of the old cabling and infrastructure.
The proposed IDFs will connect to parliamentarian suites via a new multi-fibre push on (MPO) cabling, with all new cables expected to be single mode optic fibre.
According to the tender, the project will is the first in a two-part cable remediation of the APH, with future re-cabling of parliamentarian suites due to be undertaken in the future.
The contract is expected to start in August 2019 and last for 12 months, with an option to extend for three periods of six months.
Providers have until 17 June to declare an interest in the tender. Briefings will be held on 1 and 2 of July and the tender will close on 19 July.
