Telecommunications provider Aussie Broadband will retire its Wideband Networks brand due to trademark concerns and because it makes "good commercial sense".
"We ran into some trademarking issues for the Wideband name with another company – not specifically in telco [industry] – and we also came to the conclusion that it’s a better route for us to bring everything back under Aussie Broadband," Aussie Broadband CEO Phillip Britt said in a blog post.
"We think it makes more sense to leverage off the great reputation that Aussie Broadband now has in the residential and small business markets."
According to Britt, the initial plan for the Wideband brand was for it to be solely focused on corporate and enterprise customers, as at the time, Aussie Broadband was a relatively unknown player in the market.
"Today, given Aussie Broadband market recognition and growing reputation for quality service and products, it makes more sense to us to bring everything back under one brand," Britt said.
As a result, the services under the Wideband Networks brand will be moved into its enterprise arm. This means the enterprise arm will continue to offer the services it did under Wideband, which include private IP networks, data centre connects, hosted PBX phones, SIP trunks and standard enterprise connections.
