Modular data centre infrastructure provider Datapod has been awarded a $7.4 million contract from the Australian Department of Defence for data centre facilities.
Awarded in September, the contract will run for 20 months, until May 2020.
Established in 2007, Canberra-headquartered Datapod specialises in providing scalable modular data centre infrastructure products, professional services and technical support.
A Defence spokesperson told ARN that Datapod will provide a relocatable modular data storage facility for Defence, specifically for the department's network operations, with the department expecting the facility to be operational in 2019.
The spokesperson said it was unable to provide further details on the equipment provided as part of the contract given the sensitive nature of Defence network operations.
Datapod has offices in Canberra and overseas, in the US, with the company deploying its modular data centres across governments and businesses in Asia Pacific and Europe.
The provider is one of 15 suppliers in the Digital Tranformation Agency Data Centre Facilities Suppliers Panel (2).
The deal comes eight months after Datapod was awarded the supply contract for modular data centres by a “major resources company” with operations throughout Australia, in addition to Latin America and North America.
Deployments for unnamed customer began locally in July 2018, with North American deployments set for the following year.
