This week, phishing emails purporting to be from American Express, NAB and QuickBooks were being sent.
Australian email filtering company Mailguard has identified a phishing attack hiding behind what it looked like an American Express email.
The phishing email was being sent on 20 August and was trying to convince recipients that it was an Amex statement notification.
However, in order to have access to the file, recipients had to "register". The link for this registration pointed to a phishing page with the intent to harvest the scam recipient's email login credentials.
On 21 August, Mailguard detected another phishing scam, this time using the National Australia Bank (NAB) brand.
The email was trying to convince recipients that their account was locked and contained a link to have details updated.
The link took recipients to a web page which asked for ID and password, moving them to a following page requesting information such as their card details.
"With this much detailed information about their victim, it would be relatively easy for the criminals conducting this attack to fraudulently exploit their credit card," Mailguard wrote in a blog post.
Another scam was detected on 22 August, which Mailguard believed it to be based on compromised company websites that had been hacked and used to run malware.
The emails were purporting to be from QuickBooks using different company names and sender address domains.
The purpose of the emails was to get recipients to click on the "view invoice" link which would lead to the malicious page.
