Tata Consultancy Services has won a $76.7 million, three-year software maintenance and support deal with Transport for NSW, in a move that sees it replace Deloitte in the delivery of services to the state government agency.
The new contract, which runs from the end of March to the beginning of April 2021, sees Tata Consultancy Services maintain and operate IT services for Transport for NSW’s Transport Equip Centre of Excellence.
“After competitive tendering, Tata Consulting Services will replace Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in the provision of operation and maintenance services of the total ecosystem, with up to 40 subsystems for Transport Equip,” a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.
The new deal, which includes two two-year options on top of the initial three-year period, comes several months after Transport for NSW opened a request for tender to establish a panel of application developers for its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
Tender documents said at the time that the panel would be established to perform “discretionary” development on the agency’s Transport Equip ERP system and associated applications for an initial three-year contract with the possibility of two one-year extensions.
Transport Equip is part of Transport for NSW’s ERP Program, which started rolling out in 2015 and, after going through delays, and has now been deployed across Transport for NSW, Roads and Maritime, Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink.
ARN understands the project has cost at least $172.1 million so far and was delivered by Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Back Office Associates and SAP - the system is now accessed by 27,500 users each day.
As reported by sister publication Computerworld, in late 2016 the NSW Auditor-General issued a warning on the potential impact of changes to the rollout of the SAP-based ERP system. The program had an initial 2015 completion date, which was pushed back to 2017.
The new deal that sees Tata Consultancy Services replace Deloitte in the delivery of services to the Transport Equip Centre of Excellence comes just weeks after Dimension Data was handed a $46.2 million multi-year contract by Transport NSW that saw it become its primary software reseller.
That deal sees Dimension Data supply, maintain and support a multitude of server and desktop software products to the agency’s Transport Cluster.
The contract represented the first time that Transport NSW had engaged a single supplier as its primary software reseller.
