Swedish Linux-based remote desktop server provider Cendio is making a concerted push into the local market, setting up a new base in New Zealand to tap into the partner community across the Tasman.
The company is looking to expand its presence in the local channel as a matter of priority after previously partnering with NZ-based service provider Mutex to deploy fully hosted or on-premises Linux-based desktops to local organisations.
“Cendio has had a presence in the region for about 18 months,” Cendio A/NZ sales manager Aaron Sowry said. “In this time we have seen strong signs for growth right across the region and are now entering the market in an official capacity.
“The increasingly complex and expensive solutions that organisations already have in place are often failing to deliver this effectively, so our aim is to provide an attractive alternative,” he said.
According to Sowry, the move sees Cendio actively looking to expand its reach into the local market with new strategic reseller partnerships this year, and to consolidate the fast growth its already experienced to date.
"Launching the company officially in A/NZ is basically announcing that we see heaps of potential here for our solution, and that we are here to help businesses of all sizes gain real value from it as they have in other locations around the world” Sowry said.
Headquartered in Linköping, Sweden, Cendio’s key offering, ThinLinc, is a Linux-based remote desktop server built from open-source components. According to the company, the solution is used by customers in more than 22 countries around the world to provide remote desktop access.
The projects for which the ThinLinc solution has already been used locally includes its recent deployment as part of a Taranaki, NZ-based conservation initiative to assist with GPS tracking of domestic cats, to gain insight into their movements.
In that project, the ThinLinc solution provided researchers with a “virtual office”, where the cats' movement data is logged and presented graphically in a geographical information system.
