Telstra Business MD takes on NBN Co chief customer role

Takes over from John Simon as NBN Co's chief customer officer - business

Telstra Business group managing director, Paul Tyler, has been named as NBN Co's new chief customer officer - business.

Tyler replaces, John Simon, who was responsible for product management, brand and marketing , channel management and overall customer experience for NBN Co. He announced his retirement last year.

Tyler previously spent two years as the group managing director of Telstra Business, adding to his 25 years experience in the IT sector.  

He spent about 20 years working at Nokia in various roles including A/NZ managing director, Asia Pacific vice president of sales and Asia Pacific and Japan president. 

Tyler also served time as the non executive chairman for Australian Securities Exchange (ASX)-listed BigAir Group.

In his new role with the National Broadband Network (NBN) builder, Tyler will be based in Sydney and will report NBN Co CEO, Bill Morrow.

“NBN has benefited greatly from John’s leadership and many contributions over a five year tenure.  Over the last seven months, John has built a dedicated business segment team that Paul will now lead to take us to the next level,” Morrow said in a statement.

Last year, NBN Co shook up its executive ranks as it faces the next chapter in its evolution.

The changes saw Simon head up the business sales and marketing department until his retirement; and chief customer officer – residential, Brad Whitcomb, leading residential sales and marketing department.

Other executive changes included chief network engineering officer, Peter Ryan, who led the newly formed network engineering and operations team; and chief systems engineering officer, John McInerney, taking charge of the newly formed systems engineering and operations team, and chief strategy officer, JB Rousselot, taking on strategy, transformation, regulatory and technology.

Chief network deployment officer, Kathrine Dyer, was also promoted to the executive committee to lead the construction of the remaining portion of the network.
