Google hunts for local cloud chief amid Cloud Platform launch

Vendor recruits team to carry out cloud channel expansion plans

Google is on a hunt to build out its local cloud team as it prepares to launch the availability of its Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in the local market.

As reported by ARN in September 2016, eight new Google Cloud Regions will include Sydney, Mumbai, Singapore, Northern Virginia, São Paulo, London, Finland and Frankfurt - and will be publicly available throughout 2017.

From a local perspective, Google will launch three availability zones in Sydney, hoping to add to the vendor’s global market of over one billion end-users.

Consequently, the company is now on a hiring drive for leaders to spearhead its local growth.

The hunt comes as Google looks to bolster its partner program through the cloud, offering low interest loans, co-funding deals and improved rebates.

“Google Cloud partners are essential to our commitment to help enterprises innovate faster, scale smarter and stay secure,” Google Cloud Head of Global Technology Partners, Nan Boden, said, at the Google Cloud Next ’17 conference in San Francisco.

Specifically, Google is looking to hire a Sydney-based Head of Google Cloud for A/NZ, with a key criteria of 12 years of technology sales experience for an executive that will “champion the innovative power of products” and consequently advocate Google Cloud offerings to local enterprises, schools and government agencies.

According to the job ad, the right applicant must also “possess a sales management background that enables you to lead a team of senior sales executives with engagements at the CxO level, manage a sales pipeline, and lead sales efforts that will include teaming with Google Cloud Sales Executives, Inside Sales, Customer Engineers, Solutions Architects, and Partners within Google Cloud accounts.”

Google expects the applicant to represent the local “face” of Google Cloud in leading a team of Google Cloud Sales Executives, Inside Sales, Customer Engineers, Solutions Architects, and Partners within Google Cloud accounts.

Additionally part of the recruitment expedition, is an open position for APAC SMB Partner Manager, Google Cloud, in line with the vendor’s regional channel expansion plans.

With a clear focus on the SMB sector, according to a job ad, the key role is to drive G Suite and GCP sales to SMBs by working collaboratively with direct sales teams and Google’s partner network.

“Partners are critical to the growth, adoption and scale of Google Cloud products. You will work with key SMB-focused partners to develop their Google Cloud business via sales and marketing campaigns, trainings and enablement,” the advertisement said.

As reiterated at the Google Cloud Next ’17 conference in San Francisco, Google Cloud Vice President of Global Partner Sales and Strategic Alliances, Bertrand Yansouni, said Google is “making it easier to build seamlessly across Google Cloud by simplifying our partner program requirements and enhancing partner enablement and training.”
